China speaks against Russian war with Ukraine: Chinese president Xi Jinping has made his strongest statement yet against Russia’s war with Ukraine, calling for ‘optimal restraint’. He stated that China is “hurt to see the flames of war reignited in Europe”.
China is a member of the UN Security Council, but refused to join the Security Council in condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As the war has progressed and the rest of the world has united in its condemnation of Russia’s war and revulsion in reaction to ongoing war crimes, continued support of Russia has become an embarrassment to China and has created unease in its leadership.

There are war histories that point out the even though people at odds with each other within countries, or groups of nations, will unite to take care of a common enemy. This is a time when they will forget their differences and unite focusing on the greatest threat. This is not new, and Putin and Xi should understand that from their history.

Geopolitical dynamics make each country keep expressing it’s prespectives as it benefits them ,so is China. Ukrain and Russia can only find amicable solutions themselves ,no need for others. It would do humongous good to them and save the citizens from sufferings .peace with harmonious relations is possible and hope the same soon.

They both discussed the invasion of Ukraine when they met and Xi expressed concern of invasion while he hosted the Olympics and asked Putin to wait until after the Olympics were over. Its apparent why the so called war games dragged on. And now Xi calls for restraint. Putin has one of the largest armies in the world so why mainly conscripts in Ukraine. Where are the rest of his forces? There are way too many questions with Putin and Xi. Suspicious in the least.

We both are watching the same media but the difference is I use common sense, you can’t I know Russia happen to have 900.000 armies they have 100s of airpower including 5 generation fighters they have 13.000 tanks they have super heavy ballistic missiles and they have hypersonic missiles not to mention the navy the majority of those are watching, this will end by a peaceful surrender and Putin will still be in charge and it depends on which world you talking about many will go his way for protection, Sure you can’t see the big picture Europe will have its own defence and defence industries they would not want to buy American weapons and they would not fight Americans wars, Right now France and Germany are talking with China, not the US,
@888strummer It’s the same as what happened with other invasions from other countries. If you can’t just go full out war, the guerrilla tactics and the need to be careful will always get in the way. Obviously if Russia really wanted Ukrain they’d just full on bomb and invade and take Ukraine inside a week, but they can’t do that. They shot themselves in the foot just like the US did with the middle east. When innocent civilians are invloved It’s basically impossible.

@Domi Travel The fact that you think that 1.4 billion is the effective market of China or that you think it is even in principle just a matter of having the will to strike deals tells me how little you know about it. Nobody said China is not powerful or irrelevant. The reason that buildings sit unused and unpowered however, is not because they are running at a deficit, but because they are even more terrible than 1920s American investors championing the destruction of their own economy until it was too late. They don’t have the immediate means and infrastructure to help Russia in any helpful way this year any more than the EU can be immediately helpful to Ukraine. The fact is that Russia is mostly worried about the gas exports and China just isn’t that interested unfortunately for Putin. They have some other nefarious cards to play still, but China taking the place of Europe in terms of being the gas consumption savior that Russia desperately needs isn’t going to happen.
