General Dvornikov Will Lead the Russian Army in Ukraine
When General Dvornikov Leads Russian Army in Ukraine, we can expect the same types of war crimes he committed when he was the general leading the Russian Army in Syria.
General Aleksandr Vladimirovich Dvornikov has been identified as a war criminal for targeting civilians and civilian targets during the time he commanded the Russian Army in Syria in support of Assad. At that time, the Russian forces leveled cities across Syria with about 10,000 bombs, attacking civilians and destroying hospitals, water supplies, and other civilian infrastructure.
Will General Dvornikov use a different strategy?
General Dvornikov is withdrawing the Russian Army away from Western Ukraine and repositioning it to attack and take control of as much of the Eastern Ukraine along the Russian boarder as possible, which evidently was the primary goal of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The problem with the previous strategy of targeting residences, civilian infrastructure, industry, and energy infrastructure, is that this is the most destructive way of gaining control of real estate because it reduces a viable city into an uninhabitable no-man’s-land that is suitable only as a buffer zone, a transportation route, and an area that could be explored for oil, natural gas, and other natural resources.
Why the West is unlikely to support annexation of Western Ukraine
The Western Ukraine has huge hydrocarbon deposits, including enough natural gas conveniently located near Europe that it could help replace the natural gas that Europe is trying not to buy from Russia. In addition, Ukraine has oil, coal, iron ore, manganese, and other mineral resources that could help replace purchases from Russia. Ukraine is also a major producer of wheat, corn, vegetable oil, and other foods, and would provide an alternative supply during an extended world boycott of Russia. Without Ukraine as a source of these important commodities, it will be difficult for the world to avoid purchasing them from Russia.
