Russia Army Focus is on Donbas because this is the prize Putin wants to keep in any negotiated end to the war against Ukraine.
Russia Army Focus is on Donbas Click To TweetThe Russian army has been repositioning units to improve their odds of maintaining control of the Donbas region. This has apparently included moving troops out of the Chernobyl area that was earlier attacked and held by Russian troops.
In Western areas of Ukraine, Russian troops appear to have had little success in conquering and holding cities and have primarily accomplished destruction of civilian targets by shelling and bombing residential areas, hospitals, schools, and similar civilian buildings. However, the Donbas area is different, and is an area that they have occupied and surrounded with the goal of denying control of these areas to Ukraine forces.
Why Russia Army Focus is on Donbas
This is hopefully as sign that Russia is planning on ending its war on Ukraine soon and will agree to end hostilities in exchange for some concessions from Ukraine. However Ukraine has flatly rejected Putin’s initial list of demands that he made at the beginning of the war. Therefore, since Russia is unlikely to get everything they asked for, those concessions that they are most likely to win at the negotiating table is to keep those areas that they already have strong control over. Donbas has been under the influence of a faction sympathetic to Russia for some time and it borders Russia, which made it easy to send Russian units into early in the war, and it is an area where it is easy to resupply and reinforce their troops.

Russia “Complete focus on liberating Ukraine’s Donbas region” Interpretation; They will double down in the Kyiv region.
They could be just changing strategy. Looks like they’ve given up on ground attacks and are switching to full missile bombings or even chemical attacks. Explains why they got their troops out of the way.
A US Navy veteran has reported a decade worth of videos from the Donbas region. He is still there. It’s important to note the last century of the area as well. (YouTube: Patrick Lancaster)
“And many residents have expressed their support of Moscow” — c’mon WION – this sounds like Indian support of Russia… the reason the Russians have taken ZERO major cities there in the fiercest battles of the war (Mariopol…) is simply the opposite – doesn’t sound like an area sold on Putin’s war concepts.
Did he say conflict, didn’t putin say it was training operations, he must have forgotten that bit.
You know how sincere someone is when they’re narrative keeps changing. 😂😂😂
Even with the deliberate Russification of the Donbass region from the formation of the Soviet Union in 1922 ( an independent Ukraine being one of the original signatories) to its demise in 1991 the people of Ukrainian origin in the Donbass outnumbered those of Russian origin by a large margin in the last official polls . The citation of Russian language as a mother tongue is another illusionary “fact” as the Ukrainian language was just as actively discouraged during the Soviet period. As for the idea that the impulse to the formation of the two breakaway regions was internally rather than externally driven, one of the main actors for the Donetsk “republic”, Pavel Gubarev admitted to acquaintances that Igor Girkin ( aka Strelkov ), a member of the FSB, a former member of the GRU, a hard line Russian nationalist and an open neo-monarchist since 2016, was the main organizer in the rebellion . Girkin’s operations in the Donbass were largely financed by Konstantin Malofeev replete with putin’s unofficial blessing. – Other things Girkin is known for is genocide against Bosniaks, murder of Chechen activists in Masker Yurt and Khatuni ( note to the obviously lapsed Muslim Kadyrov on these two), murder of Donbass politicians, kidnapping of OSCE observers, and murder of the passengers on MH17.
To bring this full circle into terms the newscasters of WION might be able to understand: Implying that the operations of putin/the FSB in the Donbass are part of a “liberation” operation is the equivalent of saying that the entirety of Jammu should be ceded over to Pakistan, and the democratic rights of the majority Hindus be dammed . – After all, the percentages are similar to the Russian/ Ukrainian percentages in the Donbass. ( Not going to fly with the people of India? – Didn’t think so.)
Well damn that’s…. Intense image. Pretty certain that would not go well for Jammu.
Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014 made living there impossible for anyone not having sympathy for the separatists. This and fighting depopulated the area. In 2014 I talked to a doctor who fled. She claimed the separatist movement was all about business interests that wanted to be free of the government in Kyiv and saw this possibility by making a deal with Russia.
@Ирина Лукьяненко I spent 9 years going to Sevastopol and Koktebel areas for a month at a time. Wonderful people and places. …. Yet a referendum after you’ve chased out the opposition is not a referendum.
@Ирина Лукьяненко My Sevastopol guest house host would tell me they are Russian and don’t like Kyiv. He’d tell me they want “independence” or “be with Russia”. I’ would tell him “independence” is the best. With “independence” you choose your friends and beautiful Crimea would remain an easy visit for everyone.
1:20 “Two options were on the table – the first one to limit actions to within the DPR and LPR but in this case we were forced to face the constant replenishment by Ukraine authorities of the contingent deployed in the so called joint forces operation therefore we have chosen a second option which foresaw operations within the entire territory of Ukraine meant to fulfill missions (over audience (?)) of its entire demilitarisation and denazification.”
Looks like they’re going the whole darn hog now.
I like this channel because our news doesn’t tell everything just what they want us to think. It’s sad but true. My hope is that some of the neutral countries will step in and maybe help get a peace agreement between these two countries. It’s sad that no one else seems to care about the innocent people being slaughtered, it’s more like who has the best war weapons and screw everyone else.
Goal was downgraded only 95%😅 this wont end sanctions though☝
@Crypto Prepper Russian nukes are most likely in the same poor state as the Russian equipment seen in Ukraine, hypersonic missiles aren’t that effective.
@Jan dara Russian forces are being pushed back, they have a lack of leadership, logistics, tactics and well trained soldiers. Their armour is poor, tactically they are failing, their troops are being bogged down.
@ArmedTuxedo Putin accomplished making Russia a distrusted, ostracized, poverty stricken backwater for decades to come. Putin also accomplished making NATO much more united and provided strong motivation to invest in our collective military strength (in spite of observing how weak the Russian military really is).
Invade then retreat = mission accomplished 🤣🤣
@evilmex Russia couldn’t take the Ukrainians anywhere else. Why do you think they’ll be successful against 50-70 thousand Ukrainian troops in Donbas?
@Tay ler because of lack of Air-support and fuel in Ukraine.
@evilmex So you predict that Russia will employ more air power in Donbas than it has so far?
@Tay ler i think, even current air power is enough, but it could be more, yes. And russian navy also will deliver missiles.
