Biden Doubles Down on Ukraine with Offensive Weapons
The previous rounds of military aid were considered defensive weapons, but now Biden has taken off the gloves and will be shipping offensive weapons, including:
- Howitzer artillery pieces
- Ammunition for the howitzers
- Switchblade and Ghost Drones capable of destroying armored vehicles
- Helicopters
The goal of this military assistance is to strengthen Ukraine forces and make them capable of not just fighting a holding action against Russia, but to
- drive Russia’s forces out of Ukraine,
- regain control of areas occupied by Russian soldiers, and
- discourage Russia from further military adventures in Europe.
Speaking after a recent visit to Ukraine, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that “We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine.”
