Phoenix Ghost Drones
The Phoenix Ghost drones are new devices that have never been used in combat before, but are particularly suited to the needs of Ukraine’s forces to fight the Russian army.
- Unlike a Phoenix, these Phoenix Ghost drones will fly only once and after they blow up their targets, they will not rise out of the ashes to fly again.
- Once launched, the drone allows the operator to use the camera on the drone to find a target and then order the drone to fly into the target and blow it up.
- The Phoenix Ghost drones do not need a runway and are launched like a mortar round but flies like an airplane
- The drone’s warhead is powerful enough to penetrate an armored vehicle like an armored personnel carrier or tank, or can be used to attack other military assets like artillery or anti-aircraft guns.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have successfully used drones, including the Turkish Bayraktar TB2, and many smaller drones that skilled Ukrainian IT workers have modified for military use, and the Phoenix Ghost drones should allow them to conserve their other drones by using the Phoenix drones in contested air space where they are more likely to be shot down. The Phoenix Ghost drones are a smaller, more economical one-way drone like the Switchblade 300 drones that are also being sent by the United States as part of its military aid for Ukraine.
