To label the war crimes revealed as the Russian Army retreated would be a gross understatement of the atrocities that took place there, including:
- Civilians that were apparently walking down the street running everyday errands store where they stood.
- Hundreds of bodies of civilians with their hands tied behind their backs and shot in the back of the head at close range
- found in basements next to rooms set up as interrogation and torture chambers,
- dumped in the street like so much garbage, or
- found in mass graves reminiscent of Nazi mass exterminations of civilians in the 1930s and 1940s in what is referred to as the Holocaust.
- Bodies of civilian women that had been raped and killed by Russian soldiers
These are just a few examples of the physical evidence that the Russian Army left behind, and which investigators have begun gathering for future war crime trials.
The fact that these atrocities have occurred in these towns, and most likely in other areas, is beyond question. Witnesses confirm these war crimes – there is no doubt about what happened.

Why did this Happen?
Did orders to commit these atrocities come down the chain of command from Putin?
Was this the done on the orders of a Russian general in charge of that area?
It seems unlikely that multiple platoons of Russian soldiers located in multiple towns would independently decide to exterminate the civilian population of each town.
In any case, since the Nuremberg war crime trials at the end of World War 2, the world has been reminded that soldiers are not absolved of guilt for war crimes by claiming they were acting under orders.
Hard Choices Ahead for the West
EU representatives and world leaders with the bravery to speak up remind us all that continued purchase of Russian oil and gas supply half of the Russian government’s revenue and supports their military, but not all the oil and gas currently supplied by Russia can be replaced in less than 2 years using a combination of alternate sources, increased efficiency and conservation, and through alternative energy resources.
In the meantime, oil exports of about 4.7 millions of barrels per day, half of which is consumed by Europe, feed Putin’s treasury with hundreds of millions of dollars every day, and European imports of Russian natural gas feed millions more to fund Putin’s government and military.
Oil and Gas Boycott will be Painful
It is easy to say “stop buying Russian oil and gas”, and another to actually do it when it will mean extreme shortages and extreme hardship to millions of people while China and India continue to buy oil and gas from Russia at discount prices.
Prices for everything will increase dramatically and while the shortages and dramatic increase in oil and gas prices will be a huge incentive for conservation, opening shut-in wells, increasing production, conservation, and investment in alternative energy, and while there will be government subsidies and other support, nothing provide immediate relief.
Hard Decisions for Military Aid
Military support to Ukraine has been limited and the West will need to decide whether to supply military aircraft and advanced weapon to Ukraine or withhold it due to fear of reprisal while Russia continues this war of attrition

I’ve seen documentaries from World Two where the Nazi’s took villagers to trenches and shot them; with the people falling dead into the ditches. These murders bring these horrible sights back. I’ve never been able to comprehend mans inhumanity to their fellow man. Those responsible for these atrocities must be held accountable if the human race is to continue. God please help us.
