Sanctions Cost Russian Oligarchs over $126 Billion
Sanctions against the wealthiest Russians in Putin’s inner circle are placing pressure on these key influencers in hopes that they will pressure Putin to abandon his war against Ukraine. The sanctions have cost them over $126 billion.
Some of these sanctions have included:
- Immobilizing their money
- Denying Russian airplanes access to European and American airspace
- Denying their children access to prestigious schools in the west
- Going after financial assets, real estate, yachts, airplanes and other property
“We have the legal powers to seize all of these assets,” French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said after a crisis meeting with President Emmanuel Macron.
Many luxury yachts of these oligarchs, including Putin’s yacht, have left ports in western Europe in search of places where they would be out of reach of being seized as part of a sanctions program.
